Portland Trail Blazers: Everton. Never quite seem to make the jump to the next tier, despite the squad being believed to be good enough to do so. People downplay their good seasons as overachieving, and their not-so-good seasons as par for the course.

San Antonio Spurs: Bayern Munich. The organization is put forward as a model of consistency. Credited with always competing in spite of roster/coaching (in the case of Bayern) turnover. Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson is the closest comparison to the current Spurs organization. 20 years of consistency along with multiple one-club legends.

Toronto Raptors: Atletico Madrid. Have the reputation of a scrappy team, giving every team a fight and never giving up. Have a couple of star players of their own. Almost always seem to fall short at the last hurdle against the best team(s) in their league.

Utah Jazz: Villareal. Both have had a couple of generational talents in their team. Have had periods of close shaves of winning the title, and periods of irrelevance. Both are teams that are today considered to be really good and in the next tier after the best teams.

PS: I realize that it's hard to come up with a one-to-one equivalent, mostly because of the different ways the leagues are set up, but this is what I could come up with.、

Atlanta: Atalanta. Very similar names. Probably other stuff too.
