Minnesota Timberwolves: Borussia Dortmund. there can't be an exact comparison with the Wolves, because every soccer team with potential superstar young players are teams contending right now. Therefore, I think that Dortmund under Jurgen Kopp at the beginning of his tenure at the club is the best match. Both up and coming teams with lots of young talent who upset the status quo within a few years.

New Orleans Pelicans: West Ham United. Have a genuine world-class player, but the players around him got injured and made the team look worse than it actually is. Even with everyone fit though, still not a top-tier team though.

New York Knicks: England National Team. Every year begins with a renewed sense of hope that this is the season that the team will be good. After another underwhelming start for the umpteenth time, the fans resort to what they do best - start making self-deprecating jokes over how the team exists solely to shatter their expectations and that they were stupid to believe in it anyway. Bonus points for the existence of a boy wonder in both teams who is expected to lead them to the promised land.

Philadelphia 76ers: Southampton. Spent a while in purgatory hell. Now have a couple of pieces to make them relevant again, and maybe considered a challenger few years down the line, if the young players pan out.
